FriendUs is an app that allows University of Washington (UW) students to connect and create a community. We came to the conclusion that UW lacks a community through user research and we want to create a means of building one.

Too many students are lonelyat UW so we want to create a place to find your community
None of the following apps are specifically geared to UW students so they don’t offer the features we believe are key - connecting only to UW students and connecting to UW events and RSOs.
We conducted a survey to find out about how people feel at UW and of the 50 respondents:
76% felt lonely at some point at the University of Washington
88% thought UW could improve how they connect students
To connect UW students who haven't found their community with other students.
UW students can use this app to find other students who have similar interests and who are also keen to find their community while at the university. They can directly search for groups or use filters to narrow down their options. Users can join groups with these special interests and create events and engage in group chats (as well as private messages) to get to know the other students and make plans to meet up.
Colors: shades and tints of UW purple and black for a minimalistic look that mimics UW branding.
Font: Libre Franklin - a sans serif font which is minimalistic, modern, and easy to read
This is the first mobile app I ever worked on and it proved to be challenging in a variety of ways. I learned how to use Figma, perform user research, create low-fidelity & high-fidelity prototypes, user personas, and site maps, and how to choose fonts and colors.
Above all, I learned how to be an effective group leader. I set meeting times, delegated tasks, created presentation slides, and learned when and how to compromise on design decisions.
